Rep. Murt, a proponent of historical preservation, presents the Upper Moreland Historical Association with a $22,045 DCED grant check for security lighting at Boileau Farmstead.  While on the Upper Moreland Township board of commissioners, Tom Murt, recognizing the historical and cultural value in our community, founded the Upper Moreland Historical Association, and was instrumental in the preservation of the Boileau Farmstead.

Rep. Murt, a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve, was recently awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal by the U.S. Army in recognition of his service as:

  • a soldier in Iraq,
  • a Pennsylvania state representative,
  • a school director in Upper Moreland Township,
  • a commissioner in Upper Moreland Township,
  • a founder of the Upper Moreland Historical Association,
  • a member of the Upper Moreland Education Foundation,
  • a coach in the Upper Moreland Little League, the Upper Moreland Soccer Club,
  • a coach in the Upper Moreland Hoops Program and the Hatboro YMCA program,
  • and a coordinator and volunteer Santa Claus in the Santa Claus Home Visitation program for special needs children.

Rep. Murt recently presented The Friends of Nathaniel Boileau Inc. with an $11,765 Department of Community and Economic Development grant check which will be used for the Boileau Farm Interior Security System. The Friends of Nathaniel Boileau Inc. is a non-profit organization that promotes the historical and cultural significance of the Boileau farmhouse. This past summer, Rep. Murt attended the Penn State freshman send-off picnic. Here, he is pictured with Penn State's mascot, the Nittany Lion.

As the first inductee into the St. John Bosco Hall of Fame, Rep. Murt visits his alma mater for a lively discussion with students.

Ever grateful for the service of our veterans, Rep. Murt has the honor of pinning a medal on Paul Brown, a Pearl Harbor Survivor, who is also his uncle.  Sadly, Uncle Paul passed away in August of this year, but will forever be remembered by Rep. Murt for his heroism as a young sailor.

In a show of respect, Rep. Murt pins a medal on his own father, James Murt, for his service in World War II.   It was his father's loyalty and patriotism that influenced his decision to enlist in the U.S. Army Reserves during Operation: Desert Storm in 1990.  Also pictured at the pinning ceremony is Joseph Morgan.

Preparing for his next home visit, Rep. Murt, dressed in his Santa Claus attire, visits children in the district with special needs, who might not otherwise get a chance to see Santa during the holiday season.
